The MABG Signature

The cloak we wanted didn't exist. So we made it.

We couldn't find a cloak worth wearing. Not at a fair price. Not with materials we could stand behind. Not made by someone who understood why the drape matters, why the fabric should feel like something.

For Miki, the spark was something deeper than fashion. She kept imagining someone standing outside in the cold — and how she could help them with her abilities. That image wouldn't leave her. A person out in the weather, needing warmth, and Miki knowing she had the hands and the skill to make something that could actually protect them. That was the real beginning.

So she sat down at her sewing machine and made one. That first cloak became our first batch of 10. They sold out. Then we made the Towel Cloak — same spirit, different fabric, built for the beach and the boardwalk.

8 colors. 2 fabrics. Still only 10 at a time.

Today our fleece cloaks come in black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. The Towel Cloak comes in white. We still make only 10 per batch — not because we have to, but because we want every cloak to pass through Miki's hands twice.

Everything is hand-sewn in our studio in Dupont, Pennsylvania. No factory lines. No overseas production. One seamstress, one cloak at a time. That's the promise.

Owner & Architect

Tony

The business mind behind MABG. Tony handles strategy, operations, and every system that makes sure your cloak reaches you perfectly — from the first order to the wax-sealed package at your door.

Seamstress & Creative Visionary

Miki

The hands and vision behind every cloak. Miki designs, cuts, and sews each piece — making decisions about drape, weight, and finish that no pattern book could teach. What drives her most is the desire to help people however she can. She imagined someone out in the cold and knew her skills could make a real difference. That purpose shapes every cloak she makes — and as MABG grows, so does her vision to give back and keep more people warm.

Because they should be rare. And because giving back matters.

Because Miki sews them by hand. Because the first run of anything is a document — proof that something began. Ten cloaks, ten numbered cards, ten people who were here first. When they're gone, they're gone.

And as we grow, so does our commitment to giving back. For every Founders Edition cloak sold, we donate a cloak to someone who needs warmth. Miki started making cloaks because she imagined helping someone out in the cold — and that mission is baked into everything we do. The bigger MABG gets, the more people we can help.

The Cloaks

The Fleece Cloak is 100% anti-pill fleece — soft, warm, perfect for conventions and everyday wear. It comes in 8 colors. The Towel Cloak is 100% cotton terry cloth — plush, absorbent, built for the beach. It comes in white.
All cloaks are one size fits most. Generous, flowing cut that drapes beautifully on a wide range of body types. No sizing chart needed.
Fleece: machine wash cold, tumble dry low. The anti-pill treatment keeps it smooth for years. Towel: machine wash warm, tumble dry — gets softer with every wash. A care guide is included with every order.
A premium fleece cloak with permanent membership perks: exclusive Discord, voting on new designs, 48-hour early drop access, lifetime 10% discount, annual surprise gift, and your name on our Cloak Keepers Wall. Plus, for every Founders Edition sold, we donate a cloak to someone in need. Only 50 ever sold, then closed forever.

Tides of Folklore · An Immersive Reading Experience

The Ancient Waters

Kelpies · Sirens · Undines · Rusalki · Ningyo

Dive into the ancient waters where selkies shed their skins and mermaids sing sailors to their fates. This is not a page you read — it is a sea you enter.

Of the North Atlantic

Selkies

Shape-shifters of the North Atlantic — seals who shed their skins to walk as humans, forever torn between two worlds.

Selkies originate primarily from Scottish (Orkney and Shetland) and Irish folklore. The term derives from the Scots word for seal. In legend, selkies are seals who can shed their skins to become human.

The most common story involves a man who finds a female selkie's seal skin, forcing her to marry him. Though she may bear children and live as a human, she inevitably returns to the sea once she recovers her skin. Male selkies also appear in folklore, often depicted as alluring figures who visit lonely women.

Folklorists have proposed several theories for the origin of selkie legends, including misidentification of marine animals, encounters with seal-hunting cultures, and symbolic interpretations of coastal life. In many communities, killing seals was considered taboo, as they were sometimes believed to house human souls.

Films such as The Secret of Roan Inish (1994), Ondine (2009), and Song of the Sea (2014) draw heavily from traditional Scottish and Irish selkie legends. These adaptations frequently center on family, loss, and the call of the ocean.

Selkies continue to appear in contemporary film, literature, and folklore-inspired media. Modern portrayals often emphasize themes of longing, transformation, identity, and the tension between land and sea.

Of Every Sea

Mermaids

Sirens of every sea — from the ancient Syrian goddess Atargatis to the rusalkas of Slavic waters, they haunt every coastline.

Mermaid-like figures appear in some of the earliest recorded mythologies. The Syrian goddess Atargatis (circa 1000 BCE) is often cited as one of the earliest mermaid figures.

In Greek mythology, sirens were originally bird-women but were later conflated with fish-tailed beings during the medieval period. European folklore includes Melusine, a woman cursed with a serpent or fish tail.

Across Africa, the water spirit Mami Wata is frequently depicted as a mermaid-like figure. In Japan, ningyo legends describe human-fish beings whose flesh could grant immortality. Slavic traditions include rusalkas, water spirits associated with drowned maidens.

Throughout history, mermaids have symbolized beauty, danger, prophecy, temptation, and the mystery of the sea.

Mermaids remain one of the most globally recognized mythological beings. Modern depictions are heavily influenced by Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairy tale The Little Mermaid and its later adaptations, including the 1989 animated film by Disney.
